What was the best clinical pearl you learned in fellowship? Learn the patterns. Pattern recognition plays a critical role in accurate localization and proper diagnosis.
What are the top 3 things you’ve learned over the last 5 years/or since leaving fellowship?
- Be humble and listen. All of us have something to learn from patients, trainees, staff, and the human condition when confronted with illness.
- Follow patients appropriately throughout their clinical course. There are no better lessons for the physician than those realized while providing continuity of care to a patient during the course of their neuro-ophthalmic illness.
- Learn to recognize which patients need you to lead by their side and which need you to lead in front.

Ore-Ofe Adesina, MD was recognized at AAO 2022 in Chicago for his selection to the Academy’s 24th Leadership Development Program (LDP) class. Dr. Adesina, nominated by the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), joins 19 other ophthalmologists in the LDP XXIV, class of 2023 chosen via a competitive selection process. 2023 BOARD NOMINATIONS - DUE NOVEMBER 23
The NANOS Nominating Committee is now seeking nominations for one At-Large Board position (3-year term). The term will start July 1, 2023. NANOS benefits from involvement of its members. We are seeking candidates who are willing and able to devote time and energy to the Society. If you are interested in serving as a NANOS Board member or know someone who you feel is qualified, do not hesitate to make a recommendation by November 23, 2022. Please note that a nominee must be a Fellow of NANOS and that self-nominations are accepted. For more information, click here.
Per the NANOS Bylaws, International Fellows are not eligible for at-large Board positions (the NANOS President appoints an International Board Member in an advisory role every two years)

NANOS PILOT RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM
NANOS recognizes the need to stimulate investigator-initiated research programs in Neuro-Ophthalmology. The NANOS Pilot Research Grant Program provides a one-year, non-renewable source of funding to help principal investigators generate preliminary data that will lead to additional funding from other national agencies or foundations. Submission deadline is February 13th, 2023.
THOMAS AND SUSAN CARLOW YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD
This North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) sponsored award of $1,000 and meeting registration reimbursement will be given to a candidate or active NANOS member and is designed to encourage basic or clinical research in Neuro-Ophthalmology. Submission deadline is November 30th, 2022.
