2023 Annual Meeting

The NANOS 49th Annual Meeting will take place in person March 11-16, 2023 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate in Orlando, FL. Those who can't attend the meeting in person will be offered an on-demand option with CME credits, April 5 - August 31, 2023. Please read below for important information and updates!

We are excited to launch a new abstract portal this year with enhanced features that make submitting your abstract easier than ever. Please read below for helpful hints and tips, and be sure to read the abstract guidelines fully before submitting your abstract.

  • The deadline to submit your abstract is 11:59 pm EDT Thursday, October 20, 2022.
  • Adding authors/co-authors: the person submitting the abstract will automatically be added as an author. On the Author task page, simply scroll down to find your name and click on edit to complete your author profile. New this year! When adding co-authors to your abstract, you have the option to invite the co-authors to complete their own profile and you will be notified when they have done so. Also, if an author is already listed on another abstract, their author profile will automatically populate in your abstract (as long as the email address matches).
  • When you have completed all of the required tasks for your abstract, be sure to click "Save Submission" and then click "Submit" on the next page. You will receive a confirmation email with a copy of your submission once it is submitted. Be sure to save this email!

Please note, the deadline to submit your abstract is 11:59 PM EDT, October 20, 2022.

NANOS abstract submissions and accepted posters have been steadily rising over the last several years, and we are no longer able to accommodate such a large volume of printed posters due to space limitations. Therefore, we are implementing the following changes to the abstract submission process and poster sessions for the 2023 Annual Meeting:

  • Only one abstract per category is allowed per first/presenting author.  You may be listed as a co-author on multiple abstracts.
  • Walsh submissions that are not accepted for presentation will no longer be given the opportunity to resubmit as a Descriptive Studies poster.
  • Descriptive Studies poster session on Sunday, March 12th:
    • The top 120 Descriptive Studies abstracts will be accepted as a printed poster, as well as an ePoster.  The remaining abstracts will be accepted as an ePoster and presenting authors will participate in the poster session without a printed poster (similar to the Meet the Poster Author sessions held at the 2022 Annual Meeting). Additional guidelines on format and best practices will be sent in the acceptance notification. In the meantime, get inspired by the "Better Poster" video. We will encourage everyone to follow this format as it produces better learning results.
  • Given the significantly fewer number of Analytical Studies abstracts, we anticipate all of these being presented as both a printed poster and an ePoster.
  • NOTE! All printed posters will be vertical/portrait in orientation! More information will be provided in acceptance notifications.

PLEASE NOTE: There are 3 types of submissions with differing presentation formats and schedules. Please read the descriptions in the guidelines carefully and submit your abstract in the correct category. The Abstract Committee may request to re-categorize your abstract in order for it to be accepted if submitted as the wrong type.

This North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) sponsored award of $1,000 and meeting registration reimbursement will be given to a candidate or active NANOS member and is designed to encourage basic or clinical research in Neuro-Ophthalmology. The Research Committee will consider scientific originality, academic merit, and relevance as criteria when reviewing the total body of work of an investigator. In addition, the quality of a representative new research manuscript will also be evaluated as part of the review process. (Please note that an abstract must be submitted via the online submission site.)

Applicant must:

  • Be a NANOS Candidate or Active member, in good standing, within the first five years after completion of a Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship, at the time of submission of a manuscript and list of published works.
  • Be the first author of the submitted manuscript.
  • Have submitted an abstract of the proposed manuscript for the NANOS 49th Annual Meeting.
  • Not be a NANOS Fellow (This refers to member status, not fellow-in-training). Work published or submitted for publication within the past year will be accepted.

Applicant should submit the following items as one PDF document electronically to meetings@nanosweb.org.

  • An abstract submitted for platform presentation at the NANOS 49th Annual Meeting.
  • A complete manuscript of the submitted abstract.
  • A cover letter describing your overall research activities and your role in the initiation, conduct and preparation of the submitted paper.
  • Current curriculum vitae (including a list of all published works).
  • Two letters of recommendation from vision scientists or clinicians who have worked closely with the candidate. The letters should comment on the originality and creativity of the candidate’s total body of work, as well as its impact on Neuro-Ophthalmology.

  • All application materials must be received by November 30th, 2022.

Submit materials in one PDF to NANOS Executive Office via email at meetings@nanosweb.org.
