NANOS Illustrated Curriculum (IC)
Member-Only Version and Stat!Ref License Version

Created by NANOS Committees and Members

The 2020 update to the NANOS neuro-ophthalmology curriculum1 includes revisions to all sections of the curriculum previously written in 2006. The goal of the curriculum is to provide a framework that defines the scope of work expected of a practicing neuro-ophthalmologist. It is expected that this curriculum will provide a framework for development and/or revision of existing curricula for medical students and residents (specifically, neurology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and neurosurgery).

The NANOS Illustrated Curriculum links to learning resources in the NOVEL Collections. In order to share this curriculum with your colleagues, fellows, resident and students, you must license the Teton Data Systems STAT!Ref version. Usually, this is done through your academic health sciences library.

This NANOS product was created by:

Curriculum Committee (Chair: Sachin Kedar)

NOVEL Committee (Chair: Kathleen Digre)

NOVEL Editorial Board (Chair: Tariq Bhatti)

The curriculum is weighted with the following levels:

  • Basic or Level 1: for students (medical, optometry or neuroscience graduates) and practitioners who want to gain a basic understanding of the visual and nervous system.
  • Intermediate or Level 2: for trainees who have a basic knowledge of the visual and nervous system. This level would be appropriate for residents or fellows in ophthalmology, neurology, and optometry. Some of the educational content will also be appropriate for trainees in otolaryngology, neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and physiatry.
  • Advanced or Level 3: the recommended curricula for fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology. In addition, we suggest this level for practitioners who wish to develop and maintain expertise in neuro-ophthalmology and neuro-otology.
