Publications Committee Highlights

MAY 2023

What is your committee working on and how does it impact NANOS Members?
The Publications Committee is charged with the stewardship of NANOS' flagship journal, the Journal of Neuro-ophthalmology (JNO). We just completed putting into place a 5-year renewal term with the JNO publishing partner, Wolters Kluwer. As you likely know, there are tremendous changes that are ongoing in the world of scientific and medical publishing, and what the future will bring for the publishing industry is unknown. Finding stability with a long-time partner such as WK was critical to maintain the success of the JNO and limit costs to our members. Together with the Editor-in-Chief, we surveyed the membership to learn that print copies of the JNO is still very important to NANOS members, and we negotiated to keep costs low while continuing to print four issues per year of the JNO. Recently, we have been busy reviewing key editorial and publishing indicators of the JNO and working to maintain high standards related to JNO advertising. We have researched new vendors for the JNO and brought enthusiastic new vendors to the JNO, which helps support the JNO's financial health and stability with the future of medical publishing at a crossroads.

What resources should the membership be aware of?
As a member, you have access to the JNO online. Go to the NANOS website and sign in. Look for the publications tab to gain online access to the JNO for free - as a member - in the member only area. You should also look for access to the NOVEL library, where members have access to the NOVEL Neuro-ophthalmology Illustracted Curriculum. More importantly, engage with NANOS' publications to support your career by gaining the updated knowledge you need to care for patients, accessing resources for teaching, and publishing your work for an audience that values your contributions.

Read JNO here (complimentary access for members only on the Member-Only Home Webpage).

Did you know that NANOS has 40+ committees and taskforces?

NANOS is proud of and grateful for having so many engaged volunteers who are passionate about advancing our mission. All our volunteers are the blood vessels of our organization. All that NANOS does ties back to their ongoing efforts and hard work behind the scenes.
