The purpose of the AAN Committee is to liaise with AAN and with the NONO section of AAO.

Committee Tasks

  • Help increase profile of Neuro-Ophthalmology at the AAN
  • Update NANOS annually about which NANOS members are on AAN committees
  • Liaison with AAN on mutually beneficial issues
            • advocacy issues
            • educational co-branding
  • Development of digital resources (including negotiation of funding for NOVEL)
  • Exploration of requiring Neuro-Ophthalmology during neurology residency

Relevant NANOS Strategic Plan Goal(s)

  • NANOS will advocate for neuro-ophthalmologists and neuro-ophthalmology (specifically "Build stronger ties to AAN and possibly other members of the cognitive coalition")
  •  (specifically  "Job opportunities – ACGME requirement for Ophth dept and Neurology departments should be required (Board) to have NO in the department." - ie the RRC angle)
  • NANOS will be the premier resource for neuro-ophthalmic educational programs and services (the co-branding neuro-ophthalmology courses at AAN, digital resources)
  • NANOS will foster collegiality and professional relationships amongst its members and within the broader related neuro-ophthalmic and medical communities
  • NANOS will make educational efforts while participating in AMA Specialty and Service Society Caucus (SSS), and while coordinating with the CSC, AAO, and AAN.
  • NANOS will be the unified voice of neuro-ophthalmology in the United States and Canada
  • NANOS will work to coordinate its efforts with AAN and AAO where appropriate
  • NANOS will promote the financial well-being and viability of neuro-ophthalmologists in practice and in academics
  • NANOS will offer input regarding neuro-ophthalmic issues in the development of registries (IRIS, AXON) (specifically  "Job opportunities – ACGME requirement for Ophth dept and Neurology departments should be required (Board) to have NO in the department." - ie the RRC angle)
