A five month locum in Neuro-ophthalmology is offered at Canberra Hospital, in Australia’s capital.
- March – July 2020 (but some flexibility on dates)
- 28 hours a week, salary depending on seniority
- 3 Clinics a week, all with orthoptic support and 2 with Registrar support
- Joint Clinic every 4 weeks with Neurology
- Weekly multidisciplinary meeting for Neurology, Neurosurgery and Imaging
- Teaching sessions for Eye Registrars and medical students
- Afferent pathology predominates
The position is based in the Department of Ophthalmology at Canberra Hospital, a 560-bed public tertiary-referral and trauma centre, with a full range of medical, surgical and imaging services. The Department serves 600,000 people from Canberra and the surrounding region, and provides 14,000 occasions of service annually. Medical staffing comprises 4 Visiting Medical Officers and 5 Staff specialists, 2 rotating College-accredited Registrars, 2 unaccredited Registrars and a post-graduate year 2-3 Resident. The Department offers a busy Eye Casualty, and sub-specialty Clinics in Retina, Uveitis, Cornea, Paediatrics and Neuro-ophthalmology. This public position is the sole provider of dedicated neuro-ophthalmic services in the region, there being no private neuro-ophthalmologist in Canberra despite high demand.
