Purpose

To develop and report upon specific measures of performance/quality for clinical neuro-ophthalmologists, with the understanding that the successful development and implementation of these quality measures will be extremely important to the financial health of NANOS’ U.S. members.

Committee Goal(s)

  • To create realistic outcome measures for clinical neuro-ophthalmologists, for both those ophthalmologically and neurologically trained
  • To fulfill the needs of the AAO and the AAN regarding neuro-ophthalmology subspecialty outcome measures for the IRIS and AXON registries, respectively

Committee Tasks

  • Create outcome measures for clinical neuro-ophthalmologic care that are practical, easily measured, and broadly applicable to our clinical neuro-ophthalmologists trained in either ophthalmology or neurology, understanding the wide variety of clinical practices and their different scopes
  • Work with the AAO IRIS registry committee to provide the AAO with appropriate outcome measures for our subspecialty
  • Work with the AAN AXON registry committee to provide the AAN with appropriate outcome measures for our subspecialty
  • Liaison with the Quality of Neuro-Ophthalmic Care Committee to use their results to bolster outcome measure choices
  • Liaison with the Carrier Relations Committee, Practice Support Committee, Advocacy Committee and Compensation Committee, providing measures to support these committees’ tasks

  • NANOS will promote the financial well-being and viability of neuro-ophthalmologists in practice and in academics
  • NANOS will work to improve the ability of neuro-ophthalmologists to render neuro-ophthalmic care
  • NANOS will work to demonstrate the value (financial, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction) of neuro-ophthalmologists in any evolving health care system
  • NANOS will work to improve the ability of neuro-ophthalmologists to render neuro-ophthalmic care
  • NANOS will develop quality outcome measures
  • NANOS will offer input regarding neuro-ophthalmic issues in the development of registries (iris, axon)
  • NANOS will work to demonstrate the value (financial, outcome, and patient satisfaction) of neuro-ophthalmologists in any evolving united states health care system
  • NANOS will demonstrate the value of neuro-ophthalmic care through the Member survey by FTI - Compensation/Productivity Analysis Project
  • NANOS will develop quality outcome measures
