How to Join NANOS

Becoming a NANOS member is a straightforward, guided process designed to ensure that every applicant is aligned with the values, standards, and professional expectations of the neuro-ophthalmology community. Membership applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee, whose role is to confirm eligibility, verify training or professional status, and support applicants as they enter the society. Choose your Membership Category from the options below.

Student Application

Student Annual Membership Fee: $10 
Eligible individuals for this membership category are students who are enrolled in a medical school and endorsed by a neurologist, ophthalmologist, or neurosurgeon. 

Application Requirements:
The first and last name, and the professional email address of an ophthalmologist, neurologist, or neurosurgeon who has agreed to endorse/sponsor you application.

Committee Review & Approval
All applications are evaluated by the NANOS Membership Committee, a group of experienced members who ensure consistency, fairness, and clarity in the approval process.

Resident Application

Resident Annual Membership Fee: $175 
Eligible individuals for this membership category are residents who have graduated medical school and currently doing a residency in ophthalmology or neurology, and endorsed by a neurologist, ophthalmologist, or neurosurgeon. 

Application Requirements:
The first and last name, and the professional email address of an ophthalmologist, neurologist, or neurosurgeon who has agreed to endorse/sponsor you application.

Fellow-in-Training Annual Membership Fee: $275 
Eligible individuals for this membership category are a fellow-in-training who have graduated medical school and currently in a fellowship program, and endorsed by a neurologist, ophthalmologist, or neurosurgeon.

The first and last name, and the professional email address of an ophthalmologist, neurologist, or neurosurgeon who has agreed to endorse/sponsor you application.

Active Annual Membership Fee: $475 
Eligible individuals for this membership category are physicians who have been Board-certified in Neurology, Neurosurgery or Ophthalmology. 

Application Requirements:
The first and last name, and the professional email address of a NANOS Fellow Member who has agreed to endorse/sponsor you application.

International Active Annual Membership Fee: $475 
Eligible individuals for this membership category are physicians who have been Board-certified in Neurology, Neurosurgery or Ophthalmology.

Associate Application

Associate Annual Membership Fee: $475 
Eligible individuals for this membership category are physicians who have graduated from any medical school recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), provides evidence of passing the requirements for license-to-practice medicine in their home country or country of residence and who are practicing in clinical specialties of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, or in other fields related to Neuro-Ophthalmology. Non-MD/DO applicants must hold an advanced non-clinical degree. PA, OD, or DNP degrees do not qualify for NANOS membership.
