The Department of Surgery/Division of Ophthalmology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is expanding and seeks an outstanding Neuro-Ophthalmologist at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.  Additional interest in medical/surgical and comprehensive ophthalmology is favorable but not required. We are seeking a distinguished individual who is board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  

The successful candidate must have completion of residency training in Ophthalmology and fellowship training in Neuro-Ophthalmology.  Duties will include sharing responsibility with existing faculty for didactic and clinical training of residents in general and Neuro-Ophthalmic diseases.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and credentials.  Individuals are expected to have a strong commitment to clinical care, teaching, and research in an academic setting.  Knowledge and interest in ERG testing is desirable. We provide electrophysiology services (Full Field ERG, Multifocal ERG, and VEP) for our own facilities and for all of New Mexico. 

Minimum Qualifications for position:

• Completion of an Ophthalmology Residency Program
• Fellowship Training in Neuro-Ophthalmology
• Board certified/eligible in Surgical Ophthalmology
• Eligible for licensure in New Mexico
• Eligible to work in the U.S. (J1 Visas are not eligible for this opportunity)

Preferred Qualifications for position:

• Neuro-Ophthalmologist at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
• Experience in clinical education
• Experience in clinical research

The UNM Ophthalmology program consists of six surgical Ophthalmologists covering all facets of Ophthalmologic surgery.  As part of the UNM Health System, our Ophthalmology Eye Clinic provides a rewarding mix of tertiary and indigent care. 

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment for good reason.  Albuquerque is a culturally rich and naturally beautiful metropolitan area. The people are friendly and the area has a lively arts scene, close to the galleries of Santa Fe and Madrid NM.  Albuquerque is an attractive area for outdoor enthusiasts; we have year-round good weather and easy access to the outdoors (the Sandia mountain wilderness is 20 minutes from UNM).  There are two national laboratories nearby: Sandia and Los Alamos.
