It is with deep sadness that we share the news of my great teacher, professor Satoshi Ishikawa died.

Honorary Professor Satoshi Ishikawa (1932~2022) passed away on the 18th of May 2022, at the age of 89.

He was a pioneer and a real leader in neuro-ophthalmology and environmental medicine in Japan. He was graduated from Medical School, Tohoku University (Sendai) in 1957 and moved Department of Ophthalmology, Tokyo University. He studied Neuro-ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, the New York University Medical Center (under Professor Breinin GM). In 1971, he was appointed to the. first chairman and chief professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Kitasato University, School of Medicine.

He officially established Japanese neuro-ophthalmology society (JNOS) in 1980 and was held The 6th International Neuro-ophthalmology Society Congress at Hakone, Kanagawa in 1986.

After retiring president of JNOS, he rather developed a strong interest in environmental medicine including chemical hypersensitivity, visual terminal display syndrome, sick-building syndrome, and chronic toxicity of pesticides. He received Jonathan Forman Prize from AAEM in 1996. His son (Dr, Hitoshi Ishikawa) is now the 4th president of JNOS.
