NANOS 2007 MEETING

NANOS ANNOUNCES Resident Scholar Travel Awards

The North American Neuro-ophthalmology Society (NANOS) is pleased to announce the creation of a Resident Scholar Travel Award Program to promote the study of neuro-ophthalmology among ophthalmology and neurology residents. Awardees will receive up to $1,500 for a travel scholarship to attend the Annual NANOS Meeting. Preference will be given to those applicants who have potential for a career in academic medicine who might be interested in choosing neuro-ophthalmology as their career focus.

The award is intended to help cover travel costs, hotel accommodations and meals for residents to attend the NANOS Annual Meeting. Complimentary Annual Meeting registration of $650 is included. Any costs for optional educational programs, guests or activities must be born by the awardees.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be either a Neurology or Ophthalmology Resident (medical students, fellows, and post-residency graduates are not eligible)
  • Applicants must submit a complete application package, as defined below.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to present at the Walsh Session, NANOS Platform Session or NANOS Poster Session during the upcoming Annual NANOS Meeting.

The application package must include the following:

  • the resident’s curriculum vitae
  • a one-page personal statement by the Resident describing their current academic interests, why they are interested in attending the meeting and what their future career plans are (including level of interest in neuro-ophthalmology)
  • a recommendation letter from a Neurology or Ophthalmology faculty member, preferably a Neuro-ophthalmologist, from the applicant’s home institution describing why this candidate should receive this award
  • a copy of the accepted paper (Walsh, Poster or Platform) for that year’s meeting if applicable. A copy of a submitted or proposed abstract is acceptable.
  • An electronic submission is encouraged (Andrew-lee@uiowa.edu) but mail or fax is acceptable

Deadline for receipt of applications: December 1, 2006 for the 33rd Annual NANOS Meeting from February 10 - 15, 2007 at the Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort Snowbird, UT

Awards will be presented during the Annual Banquet, the Wednesday of the Annual Meeting. All applicants are strongly encouraged to attend this event which is included as part of the Annual Meeting registration fee.
