About NANOS
FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the NANOS website. The North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) is a professional organization of more than 400 members who are fully trained ophthalmologists or neurologists. It seeks to promote the field of neuro-ophthalmology by supporting all forms of education, encouraging research, fostering clinical expertise and maintaining cordial exchanges. Accordingly, NANOS and its members sponsor an annual scientific meeting, publish the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, recognize young researchers, contribute to numerous professional seminars and provide a e-mail discussion list for lively clinical exchanges, NANOSNET.

The Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology is the official journal of NANOS. Under the stalwart leadership of its editor-in-chief, Jonathan Trobe, MD, this quarterly publication has steadily grown in quality and quantity. The format includes stimulating case studies, useful short series reports, comprehensive annual topical reviews and insightful abstracts of the literature.

The Neuro-Ophthalmology Neuro-Otology (NONO) section of the American Academy of Neurology is composed of many NANOS members. NONO assists in the organization of multiple neuro-ophthalmologic seminars at the Academy’s annual meeting.

NANOS is a sponsor of a full-day program on neuro-ophthalmology for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Ordinarily, this very popular program attracts several thousand subscribers. Smaller groups are provided skill transfer courses for neuro-imaging and visual field analysis.

NANOS encourages the use of conventional and novel computer-based communications to better serve its members and patients as well as all those interested in neuro-ophthalmology. NANOSWEB provides a calendar of meetings of interest to neuro-ophthalmologists, clinical research protocols for neuro-ophthalmological disorders, the compendium of disorders from Frank B. Walsh meetings and an index of the syllabi for annual NANOS meetings. Suggestions are welcomed to improve our programs.

Membership in NANOS includes reduced registration rates at the annual meeting, a comprehensive syllabus for the annual NANOS meeting, subscription to the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, use of NANOS member computer links and access to its collegial membership. For more information about becoming a member of NANOS, click on Join NANOS at the top of the screen or contact the NANOS office at or (860) 586-7507.
